Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh registered a thrilling win against Zimbabwe in their third group-stage game at the T20 World Cup 2022. The Tigers beat the Chevrons by three runs in what was a nail-biting thriller. A lot happened in the last over of the game. A wicket on the second ball followed by a boundary and a six on the next two balls made the game interesting.
However, Mosaddek Hossain got Richard Ngarava stumped out on the fifth ball of the over to leave Zimbabwe pondering. Blessing Muzarabani had to play the last ball with five runs required off it. Hossain kept his cool and fired a wide delivery from around the wicket. Muzarabani heaved across the line but missed and saw his stumps getting disturbed by Nurul Hasan.
Bangladesh were declared the winners (by four runs). The two teams shook hands and the players walked back to the dressing room. However, things became interesting when suddenly the two teams came back on the ground again. Everyone was left confused about what just happened. Why were the players coming back to play again if the match was over?

Well, there was a twist in the tale, as has been the case this T20 World Cup. The last ball of the 20th over on which Muzarabani was stumped was a no-ball. But why? The bowler’s foot was well within the crease and the ball also pitched before reaching the batter, then how was it a no-ball? These were the questions popping up in everyone’s mind. So, here is the explanation.
On the last ball, the bowler did everything right. He deceived the batter and the ball went past his bat. However, it was the Bangladesh wicketkeeper who was at fault. Nurul Hasan could not keep his calm and hurried a bit. As a result, instead of collecting the ball from behind the stumps before whipping the bails off, Hasan brought his hands in front of them. As per the rules, it was a no-ball.
Law 27.3.1 states, "The wicket-keeper shall remain wholly behind the wicket at the striker's end from the moment the ball comes into play until a ball delivered by the bowler- touches the bat or person of the striker, or passes the wicket at the striker's end, or the striker attempts a run." Law 27.3.2 states that: "In the event of the wicket-keeper contravening this Law, the striker's end umpire shall call and signal No ball as soon as applicable after the delivery of the ball."
Nevertheless, Bangladesh survived this scare as Hossain bowled another dot delivery to win the game for his team.
