On Tuesday night, the Pro Kabaddi League saw drama and only drama. In a rare incident, Eliminator 2 which was being played between Tamil Thalaivas and U.P. Yoddhas went into a tie breaker with the Tamil Thalaivas winning it 6-4.
The Eliminator 2 which was played at the NSCI Dome in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Indoor Stadium saw the match tied. However, when the match goes in a tie-break, both teams get three points each, as opposed to five points for a win. But as in the case of an eliminator when the winner has to be decided, tie-breaker has been instituted, which is on lines of a football penalty shootout.
Here are the rules if a match goes into a tie-breaker in PKL:
Each side nominates 7 players to take the court for the tie-breaker.
Each side gets five raids one after the other, with the first being by the team that made the raid first in the match.
Raiders are nominated before the tie-breaker and the order of the same cannot be changed.
Here, every raid is a do-or-die. That means, is the raider comes back without a point, the defending team gets a point.
Furthermore, the baulk line, which signifies a legitimate raid also acts as the bonus line during the raid.
In this tie-breaker, there are no outs or revivals. Only the points scored are considered in this case.
The Tamil Thalaivas will now face Puneri Paltan in the second semifinal, which is scheduled to take place on December 15. In the first semifinal of Pro Kabaddi League 2022, Jaipur Pink Panthers will take on Bengaluru Bulls at the Dome, NSCI SVP Stadium.
