The Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) is a tennis ball T10 tournament, with a mission to “redefine grassroots cricket by providing a robust platform for emerging talents.” The organisers of ISPL have the vision to ensure that every aspiring cricketer gets the chance to show their talents to the national audience, regardless of their social circumstances.

The inaugural edition of the Indian Street Premier League is set to begin on March 6, while the grand finale of the competition will be played on March 15. All the matches of the ISPL will take place at the Dadoji Kondadev Stadium in Thane, Mumbai.

ISPL rules and regulations

  • Tip-Top Toss: The highly popular street game, Tip-Top, will decide the toss winner of the ISPL in a unique concept, wherein two captains stand at a particular point before they walk towards each other with each of their steps touching heel-to-toe. The Tip-Top toss winner will be the captain who manages to step on the foot of his counterpart at the very end.
  • Powerplay Rules: The first two overs of an innings in the ISPL will be the standard powerplay, wherein two fielders will be allowed outside the 30-yard circle. After that, the batting powerplay can be taken between overs three to nine, wherein three fielders will be outside the 30-yard circle.
  • Super Over: Just like any international or domestic cricket match, a Super Over will also be used in the ISPL, if there is a tie. Notably, the Super Over will continue until there is a definite winner in the ISPL match.
  • 9-Street Runs: ISPL has brought yet another unique concept to cricket in their tournament, which is called the 9-street runs. A batter will be awarded nine runs if they manage to hit the ball over the fence to land among the audience.
  • 50-50 Over: A team captain has to pick five bowlers from the playing XI to bowl the 50-50 over, wherein the opposition team will set a particular score before they get the opportunity to chase it down. If the chase isn’t successful, then there will be a deduction of runs in the team’s final score in the ISPL match.
  • Tape-Ball Over: During an ISPL match, an innings will have either one or a maximum of two overs out of the possible 10, wherein a tape ball will be used. Notably, the tape-ball over will allow a bowler to use the tennis ball covered with plastic tape, giving comparatively less time to the batter to play strokes, while it is important to note that the tape ball won’t be used for a 50-50 over.
  • Playing XI and Substitutions: In a playing XI of an ISPL team, boasting 16 squad members, there will be one player each from the North, South, East, West, and Central zones, along with a player whose age is under 19. Also, an ISPL team will be allowed to pick two substitutes during one match, while an injured player can get replaced by someone who went unsold from the same zone.
