The Australian cricket team is set to take on India in the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series from January 3 onwards at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). After taking a 2-1 lead in the series in Melbourne last week, Australia will be looking to continue the winning momentum in Sydney against India during the Pink Test, to clinch the BGT for the first-time in more than 10 years after losing it four times in a row.
The Sydney Test match, held at the SCG, is also known as Pink Test, to raise awareness and generate funds for the fight against breast cancer with support from McGrath Foundation, which was established by former Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath in 2005 along with his late wife Jane McGrath, who tragically passed away due to breast cancer three years later. The first Pink Test was held in 2009 between Australia and South Africa, won by the hosts in the last hour on day five, and following that, it has become an annual tradition in Sydney.
McGrath Foundation is taking their care to all cancers from 2025 Pink Test onwards
In 2025, the 17th straight Pink Test at the SCG has become more special than before after it was announced that the McGrath Foundation is taking their care to all cancers. During the Pink Test, the entire SCG will be covered in pink, while the Australian players will have pink in their uniforms, including caps, names, and jersey numbers, and apart from that, the Indian players are also expected to play their part in some way in the fight against cancer.
Moreover, the third day of the Sydney Test, which was traditionally known as the Ladies Day, is now renamed as the Jane McGrath Day, to not only remember her life, but also raise awareness and generate funds to the maximum in the fight against cancer. All in All, the Pink Test at the SCG will be quite an emotional affair not only for Glenn McGrath, but also for the people who are fighting against cancer in Australia and all over the world.
India and Australia have played out draws in their last three meetings in Test cricket at the Sydney Cricket Ground, but this time around, the visitors need to win the match, to level the series 2-2, and retain the BGT.
