With less than three months remaining for the 50-over ICC World Cup 2023, players are in race with time to keep themselves fit for the marquee event. One big sign of worry for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is injuries to several key players, which includes Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah.

However, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is highly unlikely to be in India’s squad this year for the two upcoming events, which includes the 50-over Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup 2023, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are struggling to get fit in time.

 

With Asia Cup now just in months' time, Indian batter Shreyas Iyer is likely to miss the continental tournament. Additionally, with the ODI World Cup also in line, the BCCI will not rush their return anyway. It is to be noted that Iyer experienced some discomfort during the Border Gavaskar Trophy as was later ruled out with recurring back injury. The 28-year-old was later ruled out of the entire IPL 2023 and even missed the WTC Final against Australia, where India lost in their second consecutive appearance by 209 runs.

 

According to a report filed by the Times of India, it has been learned that Iyer hasn’t been able to racing full fitness so far. “Iyer recently took an injection for his back pain at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy. His back is still giving him trouble,” a source informed.

 

The Indian cricketer, who underwent a surgery in London is currently rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The 28-year-old hasn’t been named in the India squad for their upcoming West Indies tour and is likely to miss the Asia Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka from 31 August till 17 September.
