New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips took the internet by storm for his fielding efforts in the recently concluded Champions Trophy 2025. Notably, Phillips took some breathtaking catches throughout the tournament which caught the attention of the fans. Notably, star Indian players like Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill also became victims of his tremendous fielding efforts during the tournament. In the group stage, Phillips took a flying catch at point to dismiss Kohli. After that, the Kiwi all-rounder continued to amaze with his fielding skills against India as he went on to take another blinder to get rid of Gill in the Champions Trophy final in Dubai on March 9.
Notably, both Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill played with MRF bats in the Champions Trophy. Now, Glenn Phillips will be seen playing for Gujarat Titans under Gill’s captaincy in IPL 2025. Ahead of GT’s opening game against Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad, Phillips also revealed a hilarious conversation he had with Gill where they both discussed his two catches to dismiss two Indian batters during the Champions Trophy.
“The thing he (Shubman) said to me was, what's your problem with MRF bats? It seems like anyone with a MRF bat seems to hit it straight to you and you won't drop them,” Phillips said. “So yeah, he's got a great sense of humour. We had a good yarn at the team dinner the other night. It's great to know him personally and to be in his team and rather see him score runs against us all the time. He is a really down-to-earth guy, really enjoyable to be around," he added.

Speaking further, Glenn Phillips also lauded GT skipper Shubman Gill ahead of their first game against PBKS. He said that Gill is very "welcoming" and provides a room for discussion to the players.
"He's got a big profile and personality from an entertainment perspective. But how he is as a person is completely opposite. He's incredibly welcoming, his door is always open for a chat for everyone. He treats everyone equally and has all the hallmarks of a great leader," Glenn Phillips said.
