18-year-old Drona Desai etched his name in the record books of cricket after he smashed an astonishing 498 runs for St Xaviers school (Loyola) during the Diwan Ballubhai Cup under-19 multi-day tournament at Shivay Cricket ground in Gandhinagar on Tuesday, September 24. The tournament is conducted every year by the Central Board of Cricket in Ahmedabad, which comes under the Gujarat Cricket Association.  With this knock, Drona Desai also joined an elite list of players to produce such high scores in the history of Indian cricket.

Drona Desai took just 320 balls to score 498 runs, hitting seven sixes and 86 fours. With the help of his knock, St Xaviers registered a humongous victory by an innings and 712 runs. Desai has now entered the league of players like Prithvi Shaw (546 runs) and Pranav Dhanawade (1009* runs) to play such big knocks in Indian cricket history. 

Who is Drona Desai?

Drona Desai has already become a popular name in Gujarat cricket in recent times due to his marathon 498-run knock in the ongoing Diwan Ballubhai Cup under-19 multi-day tournament. The 18-year-old also represents Gujarat in state-level cricket. Drona started his cricketing journey at the age of seven years, and he was inspired to take up the sport after watching Sachin Tendulkar bat. 

Drona Desai got immense support from his father to take up the sport. His father sent him to receive coaching from Jayprakash Patel, who is a renowned coach in Gujarat and has mentored over 40 cricketers in the state. In his latest interview, Drona Desai revealed that he used to go to school just to give exams from class eighth to class 12th. Apart from that, he shifted his full focus towards cricket.
