Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud turned out to be India’s worst nightmare in the first Test in Chennai. On September 19, India began their Test season by clashing against Bangladesh in the first of the two-match series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The home team, who are aiming to register their spot in the WTC final 2025, were hoping for a favourable start. However, it seems that the Bangladesh pacer had some other plans as he dismantled the four top batters to give the hosts an unexpected start.
The young right-arm medium pacer started his magic by dismissing Indian skipper and opener Rohit Sharma in the sixth over into the game. Mahmud then went on to dismiss Shubman Gill, talismanic batter Virat Kohli at just 6, 0 and 6 runs and reduced the Indian side to just 34 runs for three wickets. Just when Rishabh Pant almost got the hang of the game and gave the side some hope and stability, Mahumud forced him to walk back to the pavilion on 39 runs off 52 deliveries.
Who is Hasan Mahmud? Bangladesh pacer who dismantled top Indian batting order
Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first. Needless to say, Mahmud justified his captain’s decision and went on to create havoc right in the first hour of the game. The 25-year-old fast bowler made his debut in March 2020 and has impressed his fans as well as pundits right from his game. He made his red-ball debut for Bangladesh against Sri Lanka earlier in the year.
Mahmud started off on a bang and registered his maiden five-wicket haul in the second Test against Pakistan. Not only this, but he played a key role in guiding the side to win the Test series 2-0. Before the Chennai Test, Mahmud had recorded 14 Test wickets in three matches at an average of 25. Not only this, but he also has 30 wickets in ODIs and 18 wickets in T20I. Apart from his international run, Mahmud has also been impressive in domestic cricket as well as Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and showcased his potential to be Bangladesh’s one of the bowling stars.
