Lucknow Super Giants clashed against Punjab Kings in the 11th clash of the Indian Premier League 2024, at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on March 30, Saturday. In their first home clash, LSG handed over their debut to their young pacer Mayank Yadav. The 21-year-old youngster, bought by the franchise at his base price of ₹20 lakh in IPL 2022, hogged the limelight on his first IPL match.
The youngster made it to the headlines after bowling the fastest delivery of the tournament, as he bowled a delivery at the speed of 155.8 kmph in the 12th over of PBKS’ innings to skipper Shikhar Dhawan. Not only this, but Yadav also scalped a total of three wickets, including the likes of Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh, and Jitesh Sharma. Needless to say, his spell played a crucial role in his team’s 21-run victory over their counterparts.
Yadav rose to prominence during his performance for the North Zon in the 2023 Deodhar Trophy, where he finished as the joint second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 12 wickets. In his T20 career, Yadav has taken 12 wickets in 10 matches at an economy of 6.55 and 34 wickets in 17 matches averaging at 21.55.
The Delhi boy made his red-ball debut during the 2022 Ranji Trophy tournament for Delhi against Maharashtra. He claimed Siddhesh Veer's and Naushad Shaikh's wickets and finished with 2/46 in their first innings.
