Nikhil Chaudhary batted for his side Hobart Hurricanes and scored 40 runs off 31 deliveries in his maiden Big Bash League game. Hobart Hurricanes were playing against Perth Scorchers when they decided to field the India-born all-rounder at number 6. The batter repaid the faith his team had shown in him, and while Hurricanes were beaten by a nominal margin of nine runs, Chaudhary emerged as a star for his side. The cricketer not only played a decent knock but also conceded five runs in the over he bowled.
Chaudhary was born in New Delhi, India, on May 4, 1996, and is among the latest Indian-Australian cricketers to have turned out in the BBL. With him playing in the tournament, the cricketer has become one of the few Indian names to participate in the BBL. Nikhil made his T20I debut against Punjab during the 2016-17 Inter-State T20 tournament. Since his debut, the cricketer made 12 appearances for the state.
He moved to Australia for a bright cricketing career and played grade cricket in Brisbane, from where he was scouted by the Hobart Hurricanes. Chahudhary was disappointed by the corruption in the cricket system of India, and this was the reason he moved to Australia three years ago.
He last played a competitive match in India when he represented Punjab in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on November 27, 2019, against Mumbai. In the game, the cricketer scored five runs and ended up with the figures 0-33. He has also played two List A matches for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which were against Haryana and Odisha in 2017.
