Indian freestyle wrestler Pooja Gehlot is one of the biggest hopes for India to win a medal in the wrestling event at the Commonwealth Games 2022. The Commonwealth Games 2022 are scheduled to take place in Birmingham, England from July 28 to August 8.

Pooja Gehlot, who is also known as Pooja Gehlawat, took inspiration from her cousins and famous women's wrestlers Phogat sisters. After winning the silver medal at the U23 World Wrestling Championships in 2019, Gehlot became the only second Indian woman wrestler along with her sister Geeta Phogat to win a medal at the prestigious event.

Pooja won her first gold medal at the Junior Wrestling Championship held in Ranchi in the 48kg freestyle category in 2016. Later in 2017, she went on to win the gold at the Asian Junior Championship held in Taiwan in the 51kg category.

This will be the first time when Gehlot will be competing in the CWG 2022 by participating in the 50 kg freestyle wrestling event.
