Kiwi batter Rachin Ravindra grabbed headlines by displaying a remarkable skill set in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 opener against England. Not only did he dismiss England’s explosive batter Harry Brook after conceding 14 runs but also opened Kiwi innings in the season opener and scored a brilliant half-century off 36 deliveries.

The 23-year-old Ravindra, who is an attacking left-hand batter and a left-arm spinner, was born to Indian parents in Wellington. Before making it to the senior team, the young lad got ample opportunities in the U-19 and New Zealand A side. The Indo-Kiwi player has a strike rate of around 100 in the shorter formats.

There is an interesting story behind his unique name; his father, Ravi Krishnamurthy is a huge fan of Indian stalwarts Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. He combined the initials of both player’s names to name his son Rachin.

The player is known for his attacking batting style while he plays at the top of the order. Rachin made his international debut in the T20I format against Bangladesh in September 2021. The Southpaw made his Test debut shortly after it in November same year.

Since his debut, Rachin has been featured in three Test matches where he has scored 73 runs. In the shortest format, Ravindra has played 18 matches and recorded 145 runs. In addition, he has played 13 ODI games and hit 223 runs.
