Defending IPL champions Chennai Super Kings shocked many in the IPL 2024 auction after signing Uttar Pradesh batter Sameer Rizvi at a massive price of INR 8.4 crore. Rizvi is an Indian middle-order batter, who has impressed many with his performance in several domestic tournaments.

Rizvi has emerged as one of the top performers in tournaments like the Uttar Pradesh T20 League and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In the national T20 tournament, he scored 277 runs at a strike rate of 140. While talking about the UP T20 League, Rizvi hit the fastest century while scoring 455 runs in nine innings for the Kanpur Superstars.
Talking in the IPL mock auction on Jio Cinema, former Indian batter Abhinav Mukund shared how an IPL scout described Rizvi as a right-handed Suresh Raina. He said, "One of the IPL scouts actually told me that he was the right-handed Suresh Raina. The areas that he hits against spin are similar and many teams might go after him."
