On Thursday, June 6, Saurabh Netravalkar, the USA fast bowler, played a key role for his team in defeating Pakistan for the first-time in T20I format in a super over during their T20 World Cup 2024 clash. At the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, he was exceptional with the ball, delivering a spell of four overs for 2/18, followed by an impressive super over against the Pakistani power hitters, defending 19 runs successfully.
The journey to reaching this great cricketing moment has been far from simple for Saurabh Netravalkar, who started his career in the city of Mumbai a decade or so ago. Due to lack of opportunities at a higher level in Indian cricket after his success at the U-19 level in the Cricket World Cup in 2010, he left for the USA after getting a Bachelor of Computer Science degree from the University of Mumbai.
During the time Saurabh Netravalkar completed his master’s degree in Computer Science in 2016 from Cornell University, he started to play cricket in America. He went on to captain the USA in the limited-overs format, while becoming a software engineer at Oracle as well.
Although the left-arm fast bowler doesn’t have the responsibility of leading the USA cricket team these days, he is still one of the key members in the squad.
