Shreyanka Patil is a Bengaluru-based spin all-rounder who has created history by becoming the first Indian cricketer to be part of the Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL). Patil has been signed by the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the 2023 season, which will run from August 31 to September 10 .
Patil started her cricketing journey with the Karnataka U-16 team and currently represents the state at the domestic level. The 20-year-old was the second-highest wicket-taker in the Women's Senior One Day Trophy 2022-23, finishing with 14 wickets in seven matches.
She rose to fame with her impressive performances for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Women's Premier League 2023, where she was the leading wicket-taker for her team with six wickets in seven games and also showcased her batting skills by scoring 62 runs at a strike rate of 151.21.
She further cemented her reputation as a promising talent by taking nine wickets in just two innings during India A's title triumph at the ACC Women's Emerging Teams Cup in Hong Kong. She was named the player of the tournament for her outstanding bowling display.
Patil is the first Indian woman cricketer to receive a contract offer from an overseas league even before making her senior international debut. Unlike men's cricketers, Indian women's cricketers are allowed to play in foreign franchise leagues.
Some of the star players like Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, and Harmanpreet Kaur have featured in Australia's Big Bash League and England's The Hundred tournament in the past. Patil will join a star-studded Guyana Amazon Warriors squad led by West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor.
