Mumbai’s spin-bowling all-rounder Tanush Kotian has received a call-up to join India’s squad in the fourth of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. According to several reports doing rounds on social media, Kotian is set to fly to the land Down Under on Tuesday. Notably, the 26-year-old bowls off-spin and bats right-handed, is a part of Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy in Ahmedabad. Kotian will replace legendary bowler R Ashwin in India’s squad, who announced his retirement from international cricket following the conclusion of the third Test at The Gabba.
Kotian has been one of the best off-spinning all-rounders in the Indian domestic circuit. He was previously part of the India A team, which toured Australia ahead of the five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The cricketer holds special memories of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where he impressed with a knock of 44 runs while batting at No. 8 for India A. Kotian is regarded as a top-spinning all-rounder in India’s domestic cricket circuit.

Kotian was adjudged ‘Player of the Tournament’ Award in the 2023-24 edition of the Ranji Trophy. He contributed to Mumbai’s 42nd title win, by picking 29 wickets at an average of 16.96 and scored 52 runs at an average of 41.83, which included five half-centuries and a century. Not only this, but he is also the first Mumbai spinner to be chosen for the Indian national team since former off-spinner Ramesh Powar. Tanush Kotian made his IPL debut for the Rajasthan Royals in the 2024 season, and scored 24 runs in a single match.
Kotian has played 33 first-class matches, where he has amassed 2523 runs at an average of 41.21. He has also claimed 101 wickets at a bowling average of 25.70. His consistent performance in domestic cricket has propelled him into contention for a spot in India’s national team.
