Chennai Super Kings have begun their run chase in the third match of the IPL 2025 against Mumbai Indians at M.A Chidambaram Stadium. Batting first, MI posted 155 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. Now, as MI are looking to defend their total of 155 runs, Rohit Sharma will be seen in the dugout as young spinner Vignesh Puthur came in as a impact player.
Vignesh Puthur is MI’s newest addition for IPL 2025. The franchise roped him in for INR 30 Lakh in the IPL 2025 mega auction in November last year. Now, he got to make his IPL debut in MI’s first game of the season as he has been included in the lineup against CSK as an impact player.
Who is Vignesh Puthur?
24-year-old Vignesh Puthur is a young left-arm off-spinner from Malappuram in Kerala. However, he is yet to play for Kerala at the senior level and was seen playing for the state in the under-14 and under-19 levels. He has played for Alleppey Ripples in Kerala Cricket League, where he is remembered for taking two wickets from three matches. He was also seen in the Tamil Nadu Premier League.
Notably, as per the reports by Sportstar, Vignesh Puthur used to bowl medium when he was at the early stages of his cricketing career. However, he changed his bowling action to leg spin after he was asked to do the same by a local cricketer named Mohammed Sherif.
Vignesh Puthur later moved to Thrissur and was among the leading bowlers St. Thomas College in the Kerala College Premier T20 League. He was also impressive while playing for Jolly Rovers Cricket Club, which helped him to get a chance to play for Alleppey Ripples in the Kerala Cricket League.
