On Sunday, December 3, Deepak Chahar, the Indian fast bowler, got ruled out of the fifth and final T20I of the series against Australia at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The captain of India, Suryakumar Yadav, revealed at toss time that the 31-year-old flew back home because of a medical emergency in his family.
Before the Indian captain, Suryakumar Yadav stated that Arshdeep Singh had replaced Deepak Chahar in the Indian playing XI for the fifth and final T20I of the series, the captain of Australia, Matthew Wade won the toss and put the opposition into bat first. The only change in the Australian cricket team from the previous T20I was the inclusion of Nathan Ellis, who replaced Chris Green in the playing XI.

At toss time, Suryakumar Yadav said, “We would have loved to bowl first. I told the team to not change anything, another opportunity to play in front of an amazing crowd, so just go and enjoy (is the message to the team). The way batting unit has delivered, just told them to believe and execute. Arshdeep comes in for Deepak Chahar. He (Deepak) has flown back home because of a medical emergency.”
In his only appearance of the ongoing T20I series, during the fourth match, Deepak Chahar picked up the key wickets of Tim David and Matthew Short to take the sting out of Australia's run chase of 175 runs. But still, he conceded 44 runs in his four-over spell at an economy of 11, which was far from the best among the Indian bowlers taking part in the contest.
