After SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered a comprehensive 44-run win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the first match of the day, which was played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the action has now shifted to Chennai where the arch-rivals take on each other. In the third match of IPL 2025, five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are hosting Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
For the unversed, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and elected to bowl first. On the other hand, MI’s Suryakumar Yadav, who was seen leading the side in absence of Hardik Pandya, made the call but could not help as his side were put to bat first.
Why is Hardik Pandya and Devon Conway not playing for MI and CSK respectively?
It is to be noted that Hardik Pandya is commiting to his one-match ban, which he received during MI’s final match of IPL 2024 and as a result, is off the field in the team’s season opener against Chennai Super Kings. However, the hosts, CSK went with four oversea players, which did not include Devon Conway.
Speaking after winning the toss, Gaikwad said, “We are bowling first. Playing on this pitch for the first time, so don't really know how it will play. So we just want to adapt and chase accordingly. Looks a good wicket to bat. Prep has been good. We had our young wicket-keeper coming back early to the camp. Noor, Ellis, Rachin and Sam Curran are the overseas.” For the visitors, they went with Ryan Rickleton, Will Jacks, Mitchell Santner and Trent Boult as their four overseas options.
