In the first couple of days of the ongoing Duleep Trophy clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Shubman Gill, the captain of India A, got spotted wearing a taped-up jersey in the field against India B. One of the reasons for this incident is understood to be the non-availability of the preferred “77’ jersey for Shubman Gill, which might have prompted him to don a taped-up jersey in Duleep Trophy.

The other reason might have been that Shubman Gill had borrowed the jersey of one of his India A teammates before taping its number to avoid confusion for the officials and the broadcasters. Regardless, it is important to note that Shubman Gill has spoken about wanting to wear the number 7 jersey for India, but he had to settle for number 77 since the former wasn’t available.

India B's Musheer Khan scored 181 against Shubman Gill-led India A in Duleep Trophy

Moreover, during the first day and a half of the Duleep Trophy match in Bengaluru, Shubman Gill did a reasonable job as the captain of India A, but he and his bowlers didn’t have any answers to the Musheer Khan masterclass with the bat for India B. At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the 19-year-old cricketer scored 181 off 373 with 16 fours and five maximums, to help propel the India B total to 321 runs.

In response, India A reached a total of 134/2 at stumps on day two of their Duleep Trophy clash against India B with KL Rahul and Riyan Parag at the crease. Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal were dismissed in quick succession by Navdeep Saini, to ensure that they didn’t run away with the proceedings in the first innings of India A at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
