real madrid vs fc barcelona sportstiger

Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have been two of the biggest clubs in the world and share a fierce rivalry. These two clubs have dominated world football in their very own manner further adding to their rivalry. Hence when they come together it's often considered a clash of the titans and the fixture is called "ElClasico".

But moving further, Real Madrid and Barcelona could lose the 'El Clásico' title amidst a copyright dispute with  La Liga, who already use a similar term that is renowned and sufficiently established. As reported by Relevo, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office has denied Real Madrid's attempt to trademark the term 'El Clásico' in Spain as there is a risk of confusion and association between the trademark requested and that which is already in use.

"The risk of confusion includes the risk of association with the prior mark. It is also estimated: similarities between signs, reputation of the prior mark and affected fields of application, we consider that the use of the requested mark could generate a link in the mind of the consumer with the previous brand ", said the resolution after both clubs asked to be able to market under the typology 'El Clásico'.

With this resolution, the two clubs will be denied to use the term of their preference which generates a lot of revenue. Now Real Madrid and Barcelona have one month want to appeal this decision before the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office and continue litigating to gain control of one of the most powerful brands in all of Spanish football.
