The Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) hosted the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, April 27. Riding high on the back of Rishabh Pant’s form and Jake Fraser-McGurk's crucial inning, the Capitals registered their second win on the trot and fifth overall to take the fifth spot on the IPL 2024 standings.
While the Delhi-based side missed the likes of David Warner and Ishant Sharma for the second consecutive game as the duo continues to struggle with their respective injuries. But with Delhi Capitals next going to Kolkata to play against the Shreyas Iyer-led side, Assistant Coach Pravin Amre provided a big update on their participation in the next fixture.
After DC’s win over MI, Amre said that Ishant Sharma will return by next week, whereas Warner’s return will take a little longer. “Warner will take 1-2 weeks to recover. His scans revealed an injury. Ishant has been having back spasms. He will also take a week to recover. By the time we return to Delhi he will be fit,” he said.
He is natural: Amre heaps praise of Jake Fraser-McGurk after DC’s 10-run win over MI
The 22-year-old Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk’s 84-run knock helped the side put a dominating score for DC on the board and eventually win it by 10-run margin. Speaking after the side’s win, Assistant Coach Pravin Amre heaped praise on the young sensation. “He is natural. If you see his set-up, he believes in a stable base. And he has excellent hand speed. And when you are batting in the powerplay, you have only one fielder on the leg side. So that’s a good area to hit; even a miss-hit can get you a boundary,” Amre said.
“But if you see in this game, he played smart cricket. When the bowlers bowled wide, he hit a couple of sixes on the off side also. So he has that ability too, and his shot selection is very good,” he further added.
