Delhi Capitals (DC) are scheduled to open their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at their second home called the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, on Monday, March 24. Ahead of the opening match of the IPL 2025 season, Axar Patel, the captain of DC, revealed that KL Rahul may or may not be able to play against LSG due to personal reasons.
Notably, KL Rahul was one of the most important recruits for DC team management in the mega auction ahead of the IPL 2025 season. DC shelled out INR 14 crore to secure the services of KL Rahul after he was released by LSG coincidentally before the mega auction last year following a tough season at the helm of the Lucknow-based franchise, which is now going to take part in its fourth IPL season.

In the build-up to the new IPL season, there has been uncertainty in regards to the availability of KL Rahul due to personal reasons, which has been reported constantly in the media. When asked about whether KL Rahul will feature for DC against LSG in their first match, Axar Patel was quoted as saying, as per ESPNcricinfo, “Obviously, he joined the team. We don't know yet [if he'll play]. Right now we don't know if he is available or not.”
Since KL Rahul is currently in Visakhapatnam, it is likely that he will be taking the field for Delhi versus LSG if the personal reasons don’t come in his way. Regardless, DC have assembled quite a decent squad for the IPL 2025 season after releasing their star player and captain Rishabh Pant, who is now going to lead Lucknow against them at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium later today.
