Making a historic mark in Major League Soccer (MLS) history, Inter Miami will travel to Canada to compete against the Vancouver Whitecaps for the first time in their history. The encounter is set to take place on May 25, at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada. With the team studded with the likes of Lionel Messi, and Luis Suarez, the home side fans were already enthralled to witness an iconic game.
However, in an unwanted turn of events, it is being learned that the superstar trio, which also includes the former Barcelona star Sergio Busquets, wouldn’t make it to the Northern country. The development can curb the huge gathering of the fans at the stadium and to communicate this change to their fans well before time, Whitecaps decided to release a statement conveying the message to the fans.
The statement, which was published on their official website read, “While we haven’t received an official update on the availability of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets for this weekend, we understand they will not make this trip. Unfortunately, we have no control over who plays for our opponent, and it was important for us to communicate to our fans as soon as possible.”
It further read, “We always want our best players going up against our opponent’s best players, and facing players of the highest pedigree was especially exciting for our team. We know that there will also be a lot of disappointed fans. We remain committed to making this a special experience for everyone. It is still going to be an incredible atmosphere and celebration of soccer for our city.”
The stadium in Vancouver is expected to turn uncanny as a mass gathering of people is expected to take over the streets and a record MLS-era crowd for the club is expected to attend the game. Also, the home side will be providing in-stadium food and beverages for the game and 50 percent off as well.
