Major League Soccer (MLS) is set to kick-off proceedings with David Beckham’s Inter Miami set to play against Philadelphia Union on March 30, 2025. Inter Miami’s star-player Lionel Messi had been sidelined due to an injury in early March. This injury ruled him out of the two FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier fixtures of the Argentina national team that concluded recently. With the MLS back and running, the big question now is whether Messi will feature in the upcoming match against Philadelphia Union. While speaking to the press, Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano cleared the air about this.
Mascherano has stated that Lionel Messi should be available for Inter Miami’s upcoming match as he has recovered from his minor injury. He said, “Messi is doing well and god willing and if nothing weird happens, surely he should be available”, injecting a sense of enthusiasm among the fans and supporters and also a sense of relief for the coaching staff and team themselves.
Preview of upcoming Inter Miami vs Philadelphia match
Inter Miami CF will face Philadelphia Union on March 29, 2025, at Chase Stadium in what promises to be a thrilling MLS Eastern Conference clash. Miami, currently third in the Eastern Conference with 10 points with three wins and one draw, which is also their best ever season start, remains unbeaten this season. They will be eager to extend their strong home form and close the gap on first-place Philadelphia. The big news for Miami is the expected return of Lionel Messi, who missed international duty due to an adductor injury. His presence could be a game-changer.
Philadelphia Union leads the Eastern Conference table with 12 points and has been dominant offensively. Tai Baribo, the league’s top scorer with six goals, will be a key threat for Miami’s defense. In their head-to-head history, Miami holds a slight edge with five wins to Philly’s four. Their last meeting saw Inter Miami win 3-1 in 2024.
