On Sunday, July 14, Carlos Alcaraz, the Spanish tennis star, defeated Novak Djokovic from Serbia in straight sets in the Wimbledon 2024 men’s singles final, to win his fourth Grand Slam title. In front of a packed house at the Centre Court, Carlos Alcaraz got the better of Novak Djokovic with a scoreline of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(7-4), to successfully defend his Wimbledon title.
In the opening game of the first set in the Wimbledon final, Novak Djokovic fought tooth and nail with Carlos Alcaraz to stay on serve. He managed to save four break points, but an unrelenting Spaniard managed to take the 1-0 lead in front of a packed house at the Centre Court in SW19, London.
Alcaraz managed to break Djokovic's serve once again in the sixth game of the first set before taking it with a 6-2 margin while surviving a breakpoint. The start of the second set was a bit similar to the first one, but this time around, the Serbian lost his serve on the first break point itself, to give the initiative to the defending champion.
The fate of the second set was eerily similar to the first one, which Carlos Alcaraz managed to win 6-2 shortly after breaking the serve of Novak Djokovic for the second time.
Djokovic managed to keep his serve with relative ease at the start of the third set, but Alcaraz pushed him to the limit once again in the third game, failing to convert four break-point opportunities. The sixth point in the third set was the second breakpoint opportunity for the Serbian in the match, but he failed to convert it.
At the tail end of the third set of the final, Carlos Alcaraz broke the serve of Novak Djokovic in the ninth game. Shortly after, he had three match point opportunities in the 10th game, to win the set, match, and the championship, but some divine intervention helped the 24-time Grand Slam champion to stay in it by the skin of his teeth.
