Veteran all-rounder Rishi Dhawan has recently announced his retirement from Indian cricket in the limited-overs format. The 34-year-old featured in three ODIs and one T20I game for the Indian cricket team in 2016. He took to Instagram announce the news of his retirement from the Indian limited-overs cricket. This also means that the fast bowler will still be seen playing in the Ranji Trophy.
Rishi Dhawan played his last List A game during the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Andhra. Competing for Himachal Pradesh, Dhawan took two wickets with the ball, and scored 45*(42) runs with bat as Himachal won the match by eight wickets. “It’s with a heavy heart, even though I have no regrets, that I’d like to announce my retirement from Indian cricket (Limited over). It’s a sport that has defined my life for the past 20 years. This game has given me immeasurable joy and countless memories that would always stay very close to my heart,” Rishi Dhawan wrote in his retirement post.
Countless challenges to conquer…: Rishi Dhawan
In his retirement post, Rishi Dhawan also thanked the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) along with the IPL franchises he has played for like Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Kolkata Knight Riders. Dhawan has played 98 matches in his First-Class career so far, along with 134 List A matches career and 135 matches in his T20 career, taking 657 wickets and scoring 9,470 runs in all three formats combined.
“As I embark on this transitional chapter in my life, I am filled with excitement and anticipation. There are countless challenges to conquer, new dreams to pursue, and new opportunities to embrace. I am confident that the skills and values instilled in me by cricket will guide me in this next phase,” Rishi Dhawan further wrote in his retirement post.
