American Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana, who is currently ranked at number two has confirmed his participation in the Norway Chess 2025. This will be Caruana’s eighth appearance in the tournament and the 32-year-old is set to face some of the greatest chess players from across the world. Founder and Director and Norway Chess tournament Kjell Madland also expressed his excitement in welcoming Caruana in the upcoming edition. “We are thrilled to have Fabiano Caruana return to Norway Chess,” Kjell Madland was quoted as saying by KhelNow.
With an FIDE rating of 2803, Fabiano Caruana is a four-time United States chess champion and has also won the Norway Chess competition in 2018. He achieved a peak career rating of 2844, which is the third highest in the world and also won the 2018 Candidates Tournament to become the second American challenger in the World Chess Championship after Bobby Fischer in 1972.

Fabiano Caruana has enjoyed immense success in his chess career so far. The American Grandmaster has won several prominent tournaments in his career including the 2014 Sinquefield Cup, 2020 Tata Steel Masters, 2022 American Cup, 2023 Sinquefield Cup, 2023 Grand Chess Tour, and the 2024 Superbet Chess Classic and SuperUnited Rapid & Blitz. During the Sinquefield in 2014, Caruana achieved the highest-ever performance rating of 3098 at the elite level.

Considering his previous impressive record and his ranking, Fabiano Caruana is among the top contenders to win the Norway Chess competition. The tournament is set to take place in Stavanger, Norway from May 26 to June 6 in 2025.
