T20 cricket, which is considered as a fast-paced format of the game has seen people getting hooked to the sport. The shortest format also has seen some unique celebrations from both batter as well as bowlers. Tabraiz Shami, who is known for his phone call celebration, finally spoke after he was a victim of online abuse from fans in the T20I series against India.

The Men in Blue, who are touring the rainbow nation for a multi format series, first played the three-match T20I series which ended in a 1-1 draw. However, in the second T20I, Shamsi emulated his celebration after dismissing the T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav and received abuses for his celebration. Speaking to Cricbuzz, the 33-year-old has finally broken his silence, stating, “People took it in a negative way; they thought it was disrespectful.”

“I had so much abuse at me. It was probably the worst it’s ever been. There was also abuse hurled at my wife. I didn’t appreciate that. It’s called for. It’s fine if you want to have a dig at the players, but to involve family and say nasty things, that pushes it to another level,” he further added.

It’s just a fun celebration: Shamsi

The 33-year-old Protean spinner soon after the match, took to social media to speak of his celebration. “It’ just a fun celebration which a lot of kids enjoy and means no disrespect towards the batter… I’ve mentioned that countless times before,” he clarified.

“All you guys hurling abuse are just giving other genuine cricket loving fans from your country a bad name .. cheers,” he further said in his post on X.
