India suffered a close 28-run loss against England in the opening Test to go 1-0 up in the five-match Test series. After winning the toss, Ben Stokes-led side opted to bat first. However, the Indian bowlers left no stone unturned as they bundled out the visitors for 246. With three players reaching their half-centuries, the Men in Blue in return posted 436 runs to put 190-run lead.

The visitors came back strongly thereafter posting 230-run lead, courtesy Ollie Pope’s 196 run knock. While the hosts toiled hard to get runs on the board, they eventually fell short by 28 runs, thanks to a seven-wicket haul from debutant Tom Hartley.
