India took on Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the three-match series on Thursday (12 January) at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and decided to bat first. However, the decision did not augur well for Sri Lanka as they could not even bat for their full quota of 50 overs and got bowled out for 215.

Meanwhile, India started well as Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill accumulated quick runs in the first few overs. However, Sri Lanka struck back by taking three quick wickets. India lost Sharma, Gill, and then Virat Kohli in quick succession. Shreyas Iyer too departed after scoring 28 runs. Now, it was on KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya to bail the team out of trouble and that’s what they exactly did.
The pair added 75 runs for the fifth wicket to take India closer to victory. While Pandya departed after scoring 36 runs, Rahul stayed till the very end and ensured India finish on the right side of the line. The wicketkeeper batter stayed unbeaten on 64. With Rahul continuing to impress everyone with his consistent performances while batting at No.5 in ODIs, fans showered some praise on the batter.
