Chennai Super Kings (CSK) recorded a 25-run loss at the hands of Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Chasing a score of 184, CSK batters put up a lacklustre performance which eventually led to their third straight loss in the competition. After the fall of five wickets at a score of 74, the Super kings were required to score 110 more runs off 56 deliveries to win the game. MS Dhoni joined Vijay Shankar at the crease and his responsibility was to produce fine strokes from his bat to help Chennai win their second game in the season.
However, the 43-year-old and Shankar looked nervous and played lethargic knocks from their bats. Dhoni stood at the crease until the end and scored an unbeaten 30 off 26. During the 14th over of the match, Dhoni was confronting Mohit Sharma, who bowled a no-ball on the third delivery. The invalid ball provided Dhoni the chance to clear the fence and hoard valuable runs for his team at a time when the required run-rate was above 14.00. Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was commentating during the contest, predicted that the CSK legend will strive to hit a maximum, "I think, he will go for a six, if he doesn't go now, then when?" However, Dhoni failed to take advantage of the opportunity and Sidhu said, "Le bhaiya, yeh toh phus patakha nikla (that turned out to be a blank fire)."

He is showing no intent to win matches: Sidhu on Dhoni after IPL 2025 game against DC
Sidhu feels Dhoni is tarnishing his reputation by not playing effective innings during crunch situations. "We don't want to see Dhoni in the current state where he is showing no intent to win matches. Win or defeat can happen to anyone, but you need to show some fight. This is what Delhi Capitals did in the match against CSK. I fear for MS Dhoni's legacy. It could diminish. Truth is always bitter, but you can't run away from it," remarked Sidhu after CSK’s defeat.
After Rajasthan Royals’ 50-run win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mohali, CSK are now demoted to the ninth spot on the IPL 2025 points table. Chennai will next take on Punjab in Mohali on April 8. PBKS recorded their first defeat of the season at home after winning their first two away matches comfortably.
