During the build-up to the Sunrisers Hyderabad versus Royal Challengers, Bengaluru clash in the IPL 2024, Pat Cummins and Virat Kohli engaged in friendly banter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. When Cummins told Kohli about how the coach thought that he made the pitch look flat, the former India captain laughed before saying, “You are too good Pat.”
At the current stage of the IPL 2024, Virat Kohli sits atop the Orange Cap ladder with 379 runs in eight matches at an average of 63.12 and a strike rate of 150.39. But still, Royal Challengers Bengaluru are at the bottom of the IPL points table with seven losses in eight, and their tournament isn’t expected to get any easier.
Notably, Sunrisers Hyderabad registered the highest total in the history of the IPL, earlier in the season, at the expense of Royal Challengers Bengaluru. At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, SRH scored 287/3, but they managed to win the contest with a margin of only 25 runs after RCB were quite good in their own right in the run chase.
I was making the wicket look flat: Pat Cummins
Ahead of the reverse fixture between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2023, a video went viral on social media platform X, wherein Pat Cummins walked up to Virat Kohli, who was sitting on his haunches. After shaking Kohli’s hand, Cummins remarked, “The coach was saying, I was making that wicket look flat, that’s all I heard,” to which the RCB batter had a giggle before he admired the SRH captain for his exploits.
For Royal Challengers Bengaluru, it is vital to start winning matches in the IPL 2024, to have any chance of making the playoffs this year. If RCB manages to win their final six matches in the league stage, then they might earn the top-four finish in the tournament.
