Former India cricketer and legend Sunil Gavaskar after questioning Virat Kohli’s technique in the Gabba Test, has now hit out at Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj. Gavaskar expressed his frustration on Siraj after he was involved in a mix-up with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja on Day 4 of the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test, underway at The Gabba, Brisbane.
It is to be noted that Siraj and Jadeja were involved in a mix-up on Day 4 of the third Test. The incident unfolded in the 62nd over when Jadeja took a single off the fourth ball, giving the strike to Siraj. At this moment, it was seen that Siraj would play two deliveries, but it wasn’t the case as Siraj took a single off the next ball, leading to a massive mix-up.
You are no. 9 batter. You have to think about team: Sunil Gavaskar to Siraj
Although, the batters survived this time, Ravindra Jadeja was also visibly frustrated on Siraj’s actions. The incident also caught the attention of legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who was left frustrated on this move, seeing that the team is in a critical position in the Test series. “Even now, in the middle of the crease, they are having a conversation. Siraj is having a conversation. What’s going on over here? One ball is left in the over. All you’ve got to do is stick around. There is no run. It looks to be in a very casual manner. Look at that,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.
“There’s got to be some cricketing awareness. You are a no. 9 batter. You have to think about team. You cannot think of taking risky singles,” Gavaskar further said while commentating on Star Sports.
However, the two batters departed later, Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep pulled off a 10th wicket partnership to avoid a follow-on and put the match on track for a draw. However, Akash Deep was dismissed early on Day 5 after scoring 31 off 44 deliveries, giving Australia a 185-run lead. Thereafter, Aussies added 89 runs to their first innings lead to put 275-run target for the visitors to claim the Brisbane Test.
