Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer hit back at former England cricketer Michael Vaughan after his ‘local boy’ remark on Jaffer. The ex-cricketers are known for their on and off banters, and the duo once again faced each other after Vaughan highlighted Jaffer’s Test average at the Wankhede. The 49-year-old’s comment came after India defeated Sri Lanka to secure their semifinal berth in the ODI World Cup 2023 on Thursday, November 2, at the iconic stadium.

Vaughan took to Twitter and poked fun at Jaffer’s records at the venue, after calling it the ‘best batting surface in India’. However, the ex-Indian cricketer didn’t hold himself back and gave a befitting reply to his English rival. Jaffer pointed out that he did miss out on a few Test matches played at the venue, but he preferred other challenges like scoring hundreds and double hundreds in home and away matches in First-Class cricket.

The 45-year-old tweeted, “Yes Michael Wankhede is a batting paradise, too bad I missed out in the couple of Tests I played there. Could be because I preferred challenges. Like the challenge of scoring home & away Test 200s or FC 200s & 300s.. but you wouldn't know any of those feelings so never mind.”

The Mumbai boy holds a below-par Test record at the Wankhede, and pointing to it, Vaughan had written, “So good to be at the Wankhede yesterday .. The best batting surface in #India .. As a local boy @WasimJaffer14 averaged an astounding 7.75 in Test cricket at such a iconic cricket venue .. #Mumbai”

Speaking of India’s campaign in the ongoing multinational mega event, the Men in Blue run on an unbeaten streak of 7-0. The hosts registered a huge win of 302 runs over the Islanders to become the firsts to qualify for the semifinal of the season.
