The former Pakistan leg spinner, Danish Kaneria, has concurred with the decision of the Indian selectors to not pick Yuzvendra Chahal, 33, in the Asia Cup 2023 squad. The 42-year-old talked about how the leg spinner isn’t deserving to play for Team India, due to his inconsistent performances at the international level in both ODI and T20I formats recently.

In the 17-member squad of India for the continental cricket tournament, which is scheduled to be played from August 30 onwards, Kuldeep Yadav is the lone wrist spinner. The responsibility of the spin bowling department will also rest in the hands of Ravindra Jadeja, while Axar Patel could have a role if the pitches start to provide a lot of spin, especially in the latter half of the Asia Cup 2023.

During his show on YouTube, Danish Kaneria gave his reasons about why he didn’t think Yuzvendra Chahal deserved a place in Team India currently. He was quoted as saying, as per Times of India, “Yuzvendra Chahal doesn't deserve to be in Team India right now. He has been very inconsistent. Kuldeep Yadav, on the other hand, has picked up wickets regularly and can be effective in the middle overs. The selectors took the right call by going with Kuldeep over Chahal.”

Meanwhile, one of the biggest cricketers in India, Harbhajan Singh, a former Cricket World Cup winner, didn’t like the idea of the Indian selectors not picking Yuzvendra Chahal in the Asia Cup squad. He said on his YouTube channel, as per the Indian Express, “The one thing I feel little bit lacking and wrong in the team is the absence of Yuzvendra Chahal. I thought his presence in this team (for the Asia Cup) was necessary.”

“Chahal is a leg-spinner who can get the ball to turn away. If you talk about genuine spinner, I don’t think there’s any spinner in India better than Chahal in limited over formats. Yes, his last few games weren’t good, but that doesn’t make him a bad bowler,” the 43-year-old added.
