On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of the Indian Men's Cricket Team, and the former KKR mentor was given full freedom to pick his staff. However, days after his appointment, his choice for India's bowling coach was turned down while Gambhir's former teammate appeared to be the favourite for the role.
Gambhir reportedly requested the BCCI to appoint former Indian bowler Vinay Kumar as India's bowling coach. However, our sources revealed that the 2011 World Cup-winning Indian bowler Zaheer Khan is on the radar of the Indian board.
A report from ANI on Wednesday revealed that the BCCI is interested in bringing one of the greatest Indian pacers as India's bowling coach and Zaheer Khan and Lakshmipathy Balaji are at the top of the list. ANI reported, "BCCI discussing the names of Zaheer Khan and Lakshmipathy Balaji for the position of bowling coach. BCCI is not interested in the name of Vinay Kumar."
Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir's first assignment has been revealed as Team India are scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka for a white-ball series. The series will begin with a three-match T20I series from July 26 to 28 followed by a three-match ODI series taking place from August 1 to 7.
