Zimbabwe cricket team made history as they scored 400+ runs for the first time in their ODI history. The Chevrons scored 408/6 against the USA in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 group-stage match on the back of a hundred from Sean Williams at the Harare Sports Club.
Zimbabwe, who had already qualified for the Super Sixes stage of the tournament, batted first after losing the toss. They lost two early wickets but recovered well thanks to a brilliant century by captain Sean Williams. Williams smashed 174 runs off just 101 balls, hitting 21 fours and five sixes sharing a 160-run stand with Joylord Gumbie, who scored 78 runs off 103 balls.
Zimbabwe accelerated in the final overs, with Sikandar Raza (48 off 27) and Ryan Burl (47 off 16) adding some quick runs. They finished with a mammoth total of 408/6 in 50 overs, surpassing their previous highest ODI score of 351/7 against Kenya in 2009. Zimbabwe's performance was lauded by cricket fans on Twitter, who praised them for their batting display and their improvement in recent times.
