A rare incident from the Wako India National Kickboxing Championship 2022 in Chennai on Sunday has surfaced where a 24-year-old Indian boxer died due to head injury he sustained during the fight. The Arunachal Pradesh kickboxer collapsed in the ring after a kick to his head by his opponent during the final match in the southern city of Chennai.
During his national championships fight against Kesav Mudel, Yora Tade sustained a head injury after a kick by his opponent and collapsed in the ring. He was then given immediate first aid and taken to a hospital for emergency brain surgery but died two days later.
A doctor at the Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital told AFP, “The patient was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition and died during treatment.”
After Nikhil Suresh, who died from a brain injury in July, this is the second incident in two months where an Indian kickboxer has died during the fight. Nikhil was punched in the face by his opponent during a state tournament in Bangalore.
While Police have started an inquest, the authorities were making arrangements to send Tade’s body to his hometown.
