Indian swimmer Siva Sridhar starred at the ongoing FINA World Swimming Championships 2022 which is being held in Melbourne. The 21-year-old broke his own national record in the Men’s 200m individual medley but failed to qualify for the final on Tuesday.
Although he did not progress further, he created a new ‘Best Indian Performance’ with his new national record. Siva clocked 1:59.80s at the Short Course World Championships, surpassing his previous best of 2:02.42. With this new record, he finished 30 th among the 38 swimmers in the category.
Hailing from Coimbatore, the 21-year-old has already earned seven gold medals and two silvers at the Khelo India University Games 2021. The young swimmer has also won the 400m individual medley at the South Asian Games 2019.
Talking more about his achievements, Sridhar also broke the KIUG record in 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 200m individual medley and 400m individual medley. The ‘Star Fish’ has also paired with Indian Olympian Srihari Nataraj in relays to win the 4x100m freestyle and 4x200m freestyle events.
