The Punjab Kings will host Kolkata Knight Riders to kick off their IPL 2023 campaign. Both of the teams didn’t have a great previous season as they finished outside the playoffs. But now with updated rosters, both teams hope to start proceedings on a positive note. The Knight Riders were dealt with a massive blow ahead of the season as their captain Shreyas Iyer was ruled out citing a back injury. With this absence and a lack of quality death bowling options, KKR will be under pressure from the opening game. Whereas, Punjab Kings, unlike previous seasons, have a complete side with quality players across the board. Shikhar Dhawan-led Kings has some great overseas stars. If Punjab hopes for a possible playoff push their inexperienced Indian contingent needs to fire.
