England's star all-rounder Chris Woakes is certainly making the most of the opportunities he is getting against Sri Lanka in the ongoing limited-overs series. After being out of action for a while due to various reasons, the 32-year-old looked impressive in the recently-concluded T20Is. Continuing his good form, Woakes produced one of the best spells ever in history of 50-over cricket during the 1st ODI in Chester-le-Street.
Woakes finishes with brilliant figures of 10-5-18-4
The England all-rounder was in terrific form on Tuesday as he started his opening spell by bowling four maidens (in his first five overs) with the new ball. After dismissing Pathum Nissanka and Dasun Shanaka inside the powerplay, he later went on to take the crucial wickets of half-centurion Wanindu Hasaranga and Dhananjaya Lakshan in quick succession to put his side on top.
As Sri Lanka were bowled out on 185, Woakes finished with spectacular bowling figures of 10-5-18-4. In the process, he also achieved the incredible feat of completing 150 ODI wickets. He has become only the second England player after Andrew Flintoff to reach the double of 1000 runs and 150 wickets in the format.
