The Board for Control of Cricket in India announced the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 on April 30 and since t hen the players picked in the side haven't performed exceedingly well. The Men in Blue haven't lifted an ICC trophy since 2013 hence every squad picked for an ICC event is under immense pressure.
Team India came extremely close in the ODI World Cup 2023 as they lost in the final after going undefeated through the entire tournament. The expectations for the T20 World Cup are even higher, so every player named in the squad is heavily scrutinised, especially based on a few immediate results.
Indian players' performance in IPL 2024 after selection for T20 WC '24
Starting with the game on April 30, Mumbai Indians took on the Lucknow Super Giants which included some key Indian players like captain Rohit Sharma, vice-captain Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah. Rohit only managed four in five balls, SKY scored 10 in six balls, Hardik ended up with a golden duck while picking up 2-26 and Bumrah went wicketless while giving away 17 runs in his four overs.
Then in the next game, on May 2, between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings, CSK's Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh of PBKS have been picked. But both of them had a poor outing. Dube had to settle for a golden duck and one wicket while giving away 14 runs in one over. Whereas Singh conceded 52 runs in his four overs and picked up one wicket.
Now talking about the game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals, four players - Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Avesh Khan (reserve) were in action. Samson and Chahal had performances to forget as the RR captain got out after a three-ball duck while the veteran leggie had his worst figures by conceding 62 runs in his four overs. Whereas, Khan picked two wickets and went for 39 runs while Jaiswal smashed a brilliant 67 in 40 with seven fours and two sixes.
