The increased level of athleticism is perhaps limited-overs cricket’s biggest gift to the sport at large. This has implied fielders are now, more than ever before, willing to throw themselves on the field to save an extra run or to take a catch that can make a difference in the end. One such incident happened in the ECS Germany, Krefeld, 2022, Bronze Final match between Dusseldorf Blackcaps and Koln CC.

In the 8th over of the Dusseldorf Blackcaps innings being bowled by A Zadran when batters M Ahmadzai and K Shahab were in the middle of a great partnership, a fantastic effort in the deep by the fielder Prateek Dabholkar helped Koln CC get a breakthrough.

While the left-handed Ahmadzai attempted an aerial shot, he failed to time it perfectly. However, for a brief moment, it felt like the ball would land in no-man’s land. But fielder Dabholkar, stationed at long off, threw himself towards the ball and got to the ball before it made contact with the ground, completing a superb catch that made for a fantastic visual.

Eventually though Dusseldorf Blackcaps won the match by 1 run. While they scored 116/7 in 10 overs, Koln CC managed only 115/6 in 10 overs. Shabab (44) was the best batter for Dusseldorf Blackcaps and Ameya Deshpande top-scored for Koln CC while Shabab and Dhani were the best bowlers in the fixture for their respective sides.
