The ninth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup is finally ended at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 20. New Zealand Women defeated South Africa Women in the final to lift their maiden World Cup title, while South Africa finished as the runners up for the second consecutive time. 

The Women’s T20 World Cup was inaugurated in 2009 in England. Since then, only three nations have lifted the trophy with Australia Women being the most successful of the tournament with six titles. On the other hand, England Women and West Indies Women have clinched one title each.

England Women – 2009

England Women turned out to be the champions of the inaugural season of the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2009. They defeated New Zealand Women by six wickets in the final at Lords cricket ground on June 21, 2009. Claire Taylor was adjudged player of the tournament with 199 runs in four innings.

Australia Women – 2010

The second edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup took place in the West Indies and was won by Australia Women in 2010. They defeated New Zealand Women by just three runs in the final in Bridgetown on May 16, 2010. Ellyse Perry delivered a match-winning performance in the final by registering figures of 3/18.

Australian Women went on to win their second consecutive Women’s T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka in 2012. The Aussies Women defeated England Women by four runs in the final in Colombo on October 7, 2012. Jess Duffin was the top scorer in the final with 45 runs off 34 balls.

Australia Women registered the hat-trick of titles in the 2014 Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh. This time also, they defeated England Women by six wickets in the final in Mirpur on April 6, 2014.

West Indies Women – 2016

West Indies Women broke Australia’s streak of three back-to-back titles by defeating them in the final of the Women’s T20 World Cup in India in 2016. With this, West Indies Women also clinched their maiden Women’s T20 World Cup title.

Australia Women clinched their fourth Women’s T20 World Cup title in West Indies in 2018. They defeated England Women by eight wickets in the final in North Sound on November 24, 2018. Alyssa Healy was adjudged player of the tournament by becoming the highest run-scorer of the season with 225 runs in five innings.

Australia Women – 2020

Australia Women continued their domination in world cricket by winning their fifth Women’s T20 World Cup title in front of their home crowd in 2020. They defeated India Women by 85 runs in the final at Melbourne cricket ground on March 8, 2020. Beth Mooney scored 259 runs in that campaign and was adjudged player of the tournament.

Another hat-trick of titles for Australia Women in the Women’s T20 World Cup. This time, they defeated the hosts South Africa Women by 19 runs in the final in Cape Town on February 26, 2023. Ashleigh Gardner was adjudged player of the tournament with her all round performance where she scored 110 runs and took 10 wickets.

New Zealand Women – 2024

New Zealand Women went on to win the first-ever cricket World Cup title for the country with Women’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2024. Playing their third T20 World Cup final after 14 years, New Zealand Women defeated South Africa Women by 32 runs in the final in Dubai on October 20, 2024. Amelia Kerr was adjudged player of the tournament for her all-round performance with 135 runs with the bat and 15 wickets with the ball.
