The BCCI has reportedly dropped India’s 2026 T20 World Cup winning captain Suryakumar Yadav from the Asian Games probable squad. As per reports, the BCCI may be looking for a succession plan to carry out transition in the T20 team, and as per the latest reports, Yadav is not in the 30-man list given to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for the Asian Games. Notably, the quadrennial tournament is due to be held in Aichi-Nagoya from September 19 to October 4.

Not only this, but sources add that India’s Test and ODI skipper Shubman Gill is also missing from the list, while teen sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been picked in the list. Notably, Yadav is also reportedly not in the larger scheme of things as far as the 2028 Olympic Games as well as the next T20 World Cup is concerned. Talking about the Asian Games squad, the national selectors are due to submit their first-choice 15 by the second week of June.

According to Times of India, it was pre-decided that selectors will look at captaincy options in Asian Games when they were asked to prepare a list in January this year. However, it is yet to be decided if the first-choice T20 players will be sent for the Asian Games.

It was decided in Jan that Surya will not be part of the Asian Games- Reports

"The selectors are looking at possible captaincy options before taking a call on Surya. While Shreyas lyer and Sanju Samson appear to be contenders, vice-captain Axar Patel's name has also been floated to do the job before the selectors zero down on a clear successor. It will also be seen if Surya will be given another tour to rediscover his touch as a player. The next selection meeting will make things clear," TOI quoted a BCCI source as saying.

"It was decided in Jan that Surya will not be part of the Asian Games. The focus is on ODI World Cup preparations. There are a few players in the long list who play the ODI format too. The govt will prefer if the BCCI sends a full-strength team to the Asian Games. A call on the Asian Games teams will be taken after consulting the govt," the source added.
