It is a subject of importance and extremely valid one at that where it comes to the men’s senior cricket team currently in Sri Lanka that they win both the test matches. Even if this clearly means succeeding away from Indian conditions and that two in this spinning territory of Sri Lanka. The simple reason for this is that in the recent turn of events especially where it comes to Red Ball cricket, the team’s usual impressive form is nowhere to be found with key members often missing out on matches, thanks to injuries and ongoing fitness concerns.
Even right now, the Indian cricket team images present in Sri Lanka has notable talent in the form of Rishabh, Pant, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Siraj among others, but the big lanky game changing matchwinners, such as Bumrah are still missing out an action. Forget not Pandya.
What is even more important is that India has to win, almost 90% of its remaining test matches in the current WTC cycle if they are dreaming to make it to the finality or the final stage of the WTC championship event. What hasn’t helped is the series losses suffered at the hands of New Zealand and South Africa, on both occasions, the hosts India being blanked white washed.
Ahead of the start of the first of the two matches in a Press conference – Test captain Shubman Gill happened to share the following insights:
“I am very comfortable in my role as Captain. It’s pleasing to see the way we have been progressing in test cricket in the past one year. And I think we are taking all the right steps in the right direction. The main goal is to play the world test championship final, which is next year.
We have about nine Tests (test matches), of which we have to win around six or seven Tests. It’s a very important series for us, and I think we’ve had the right kind of preparations for this series.”
