Paris Saint Germain have been crowned as the champions of Europe yet again with a victory against Arsenal. It was a thrilling match between the European Giants as the winner couldn’t be decided with 120 minutes of play. There was very little to differentiate between the two sides as both teams created some good goal-scoring opportunities but they lacked the finishing touch.

PSG were in control of the game throughout as they held possession of the ball but were unable to just crack the code to get past the heavy defense of Arsenal. Gabriel and Saliba were rock solid in the back and the attackers of the PSG struggled to get the ball into their D-box.

Arsenal would have hoped to get hold of their second title of the season and this was probably as close as they could get to the UCL title. Mosquiera made a costly mistake in the second half when he fouled Kvicha Kvaratshkelia in the penalty box and that was the moment that gave PSG a glimmer of hope. They kept on taking their chances from outside the box and at the flanks but certain chances were even deflected off the crossbar.

PSG hold their nerve to secure second straight UCL title

Winning two back-to-back UCLs is no easy feat and Luis Enrique has conquered that summit as well. PSG has a significant attacking reputation with players with extraordinary pace up front with Ousmane Dembele, Kvicha Kvaratkshelia and Desire Doue. But unfortunately early on in the game, Marquinhos attempted to play a ball through to the front but it deflected off an Arsenal player, to give Havertz a clear chance through on goal.

Kai Havertz looked like he recreated a similar match-winning goal that he scored years ago for Chelsea in the UCL final. It was a thunderous strike into the net and the goalkeeper seemed to have absolutely no chance. Arsenal’s high press tactic paid dividends early on in the game but they immediately parked the bus following their first goal.

PSG were constantly on the attack trying to find their way through the compact Arsenal defense but they weren’t able to find an opening. They went into the second-half trailing behind by one goal and they were desperate to make some clear chances. There were some brilliant passes by Nuno Mendes and Vitinha that created space for chances but it couldn’t be converted.

Just when things seemed like it was getting out of hand for the defending champions, Dembele tucked the ball neatly into the left corner to level the game. In the penalty shootout, Eze and Nuno Mendes missed their penalty kick but it all went down to the last kick of the first five penalties. Gabriel Magalhaes was entrusted with the responsibility to keep the hopes alive for Arsenal but unfortunately he fired it above the post.
