India is set to tour Zimbabwe for three-match ODI series starting from next month. The three games are scheduled to be played on August 18, 20 and 22 respectively.
These three games between India and Zimbabwe will be part of the ICC One-Day Super League. The points from these games will help a team qualify for the next year's ICC ODI World Cup. However, it is not a matter of concern for Team India as they automatically qualify for the event by virtue of being the hosts of the 2023 edition of the tournament.
The 50-over matches that India have to play against England and West Indies this month are not involved in the Super League. Former Zimbabwe coach Lalchand Rajput, who has now been re-designated as the Technical Director, told Cricbuzz, "It's a big opportunity for the players to play against the Indian players and for the cricketing fraternity in Zimbabwe. It will create a lot of interest amongst the younger generation to take up this game. Overall, the series is very good for Zimbabwe cricket."
India will be touring the Chevrons for the first time in six years. In 2016, an MS Dhoni-led Indian team had toured Zimbabwe to play three ODIs and T20Is in the Southern African country.
