Jasprit Bumrah made an impressive debut in Test captaincy. Although he lost his first Test as the captain of the side, the efforts he put in were laudable. The pacer played a blinder (31* off 16 balls) in the first innings of the fifth rescheduled Test between India and England. He also bagged three wickets with the ball. In the second innings, Bumrah took two quick wickets to give India an opening.

Having donned the captain’s hat for the first time, Jasprit Bumrah was asked at the post-match presentation if he would like to captain India in the long run. To this, Bumrah said it’s not him who decides. The pacer also said that it was an honor for him to lead the country and he liked the challenges that came his way.

“The captaincy future is not what I decide. I like the responsibility. It was a good challenge, a new challenge. It was an honor to lead the team and a great experience,” said Jasprit Bumrah at the post-match presentation.

That’s beauty of Test cricket: Bumrah

Speaking on India’s loss to England in the fifth Test, Jasprit Bumrah called it the beauty of Test cricket. The Indian captain for the match said that India lost despite being on top for three days. Bumrah reckoned falling short with the bat in the second innings cost them the match. However, he also praised England and called the result fair.

“That's the beauty of Test cricket, even if you have three good days. We fell short with the bat yesterday and that is where we let the opposition in to let the match slip away from us. Ifs and buts can always be there. If you go back, if there was no rain in the first match, we could have won the series. But England played really well. We have drawn the series and both teams played very good cricket and it was a fair result,” said Jasprit Bumrah.
